Dear <<First Name>>

For only the second time in its history, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)’s Youth Forum is being held in person today, giving young people a rare opportunity to present their thoughts, ideas, work and policy recommendations directly to key industry leaders and decision-makers.

The forum in Abu Dhabi comes as many young people are being left feeling betrayed, ignored and abandoned by politicians and older generations. Greta Thunberg’s world famous Skolstrejk för klimatet - or School Strike for Climate - is just one of many examples reflecting young people’s fears and anxieties around climate change and their demands for global action and leadership.

But far from just being activists campaigning for a better world, young people are of course integral to implementing and fast-tracking the just energy transition. This is no truer than in the energy sector, where young people are having an increasing role in policy drafting, recommendations and reviews, energy entrepreneurship and research.

At Camco, a large and growing proportion of the team are under 30, and we are certainly all the better for the energy, urgency and all-round brilliance that they bring. (Meet them here.)

Events like the IRENA Youth Forum that raise the profile of the youth and enable them to play a leading role in global climate action should not just be celebrated but be made commonplace.

Cheers
