We’ve just launched our new website! Please take a look around when you get a moment to see what you think. The site was only published this morning, so some people may still be seeing the old site while the migration is fully completed, but we’re told it will be live “everywhere” within 48 hours at most.

Camco as a company has developed a lot in recent years: Our team has grown nearly three-fold in as many years; we’ve launched two new clean energy funds - Spark and TIDES - in the last 12 months; and it was around this time last year that we were approved as an Accredited Entity of the Green Climate Fund, which has opened up lots of exciting opportunities for us to develop as a leading climate and impact fund manager. We also continue to manage the UK government-funded REPP, which recently won the Impact Investing award at the Financial Times and IFC Transformational Business Awards. 

As much as I liked our old website, it no longer reflected the company Camco is today and was in need of an overhaul. It’s been a big job getting the new site ready for launch, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the team here who’ve been working on it and to our external designers Giorgio Rondelli and Faten M for all their hard work.

In other news, we’re still on the ground and participating at COP26 and have been regularly posting our thoughts and reflections - plus the odd interview, too - on our LinkedIn and Twitter accounts (using #CAMCOP26). We will be sure to provide our final round-ups next week after the all-important conference wraps up some time over the weekend.

Namibia: State-owned NamPower launches tender for the construction of a 40MW wind farm (Afrik21)
- The Rosh Pinah wind farm aims to diversify the nation’s electricity mix. Companies have until 20 January to apply.

South Africa: AfDB grants USD57.7 million loan for energy storage (EnergyStorageNews)
- The loan will help develop a large-scale battery energy storage system run by Eksom.

South Africa: Eskom seeks urgent conversion of USD8.5 billion political declaration into commercial agreement (EngineeringNews)
- The state-owned utility’s call to accelerate the flow of finance comes just days after the ‘Just Energy Transition Partnership’ was launched at COP26 to support South Africa’s decarbonisation efforts over a three- to five-year period.

South Africa: Nation’s first solar PV wheeling project commissioned in the Northern Cape (PVMagazine)
- The 10MW plant has been developed by Cape Town-based SOLA Group and will deliver power to businesses via the national grid.

Africa - general

Africa: Canada provides USD8 million fund to reduce impacts of climate change (Afrik21)
- The Climate Change Fund for Africa funding will focus on reducing the impact on women and girls.

Cameroon: EUR11 million guarantee issued by BGFI Bank for 30.60MWp solar PV plant (TheElectricityHub)
- Power from the plants in Maroua and Guider will be supplied to state utility Eneo under a PPA.

Morocco: Government to invest USD33 million in clean water and renewable energy (MoroccoWorldNews)
- The project aims to improve water and electricity services in El Guerguerat and Bir Gandouz.

Morocco: Ground-breaking solar and wind project to export clean energy exclusively to the UK (OilandGas)
- Developers claim the power plant will be able to deliver 10.5GW of clean energy to 7 million British homes by 2030.

COP26: New draft climate deal steps up call for urgent action (BBC)
- Countries asked to reveal their plans to massively reduce greenhouse gas emissions at a much faster speed than before, but commitments to reduce use of coal and other fossil fuels softened.

UK: Customer-owned wind turbine to be built in Wales (BBC)
- GBP2.2 million was raised in a crowdfunding campaign to develop the project.

USA: USD1 trillion dollar renewable energy deal awaits President Joe Biden’s approval (EnergyStorageNews)
- The infrastructure plan involves supporting more new clean energy projects and innovation.
