West Africa

Nigeria: $2 million project on the improvement and construction of transmission lines aimed at increasing supply by up to 20 MW of capacity set to be completed in October. All Africa
Ghana: President inaugurates second solar plant, with a generation capacity of 20MW, at a total project cost of US$20 million, supply the national grid. Alternative energy Africa
Gambia: State utility preparing to build first large-scale solar plant, generation capacity of between 10MW and 20MW, financed by the World Bank. Alternative Energy Africa
Ghana: Ministry of Energy inaugurates 26 micro-grids for remote health facilities, each having a capacity of 4 KW, financed by UKAID. Alternative Energy Africa

East Africa

Tanzania: Government intends to shift to natural gas-powered buses in a move intended to cut fuel use by 50%. The project intends to transform 800 buses at a cost of between $700 and $875. All Africa
Uganda: Ministry of Energy establishes a team to conduct the pre-feasibility study of establishing nuclear power plants. The move is aimed at spurring industrialisation and meeting energy needs. All Africa
Rwanda: Japanese government set to issue $24 million grant to ensure stable energy supply, catering to the growing demand for power at 10% annually. All Africa

Southern Africa

Zimbabwe: Detailed studies on the construction of the 3.6 MW Manicaland Odzani-Mini Hydroelectric power project set to commence after completion of pre-feasibility studies. All Africa
Malawi: US$350 million Millennium Challenge Account aimed at enhancing the transmission and distribution network comes to a close having being used to increase generation capacity by 12MW and installing a 2400 KV power line in addition to building two substations. All Africa
Zimbabwe: Regulator approached by 4 IPPs seeking to build solar PV and hydro plants with a combined total generation capacity of 167 MW, aimed at reducing the nation’s dependence on imports. All Africa
Angola: Government seeks to increase generation capacity from 4600 MW to 7000 MW by 2022 through hydro projects. All Africa

Caribbean and Southeast Asia

Vietnam: Sharp Energy Solutions plans to construct two solar PV plants, each with a capacity of 49MW. PV Tech
Philippines: 50.7MW solar PV project now operational, expected to produce 75,000 MWh p.a. enough to power 24,000 homes. PV Tech
Taiwan: Nation serves as an example of how government policy can protect and grow the renewable energy industry. PV Tech

Afghanistan: IFC to help the nation tender for a 40MW solar power project aimed at increasing the number of grid connected people from 28%, partly financed by DfID. PV magazine
